“I wonder if my fascination for clouds (without being an obsession) may have risen at the end of the 80s as, whilst composing Micro-climat, I would regularly wander between the Vercors mountains and the high plateaus of the Monts du Forez discovering, through my eyes, body, breath, active observation and walk, that natural forms when constantly changing and yet swollen with a unity of matter (in this instance, water) open one up to a deep, fundamental breath and a clear field for the mind.
The sky and its forces: our ally.
A model for a natural music which, although fixed, as in musique concrète (a rule of the genre), moreover on a recording tape, will remain charged with such a poetic quality that (isn't it its role or rather its reality?) it will ensure a perpetual renewal for our senses, so as to reach another idea of the world, far more open and richer than what we could have imagined.”

Une première édition CD de Sirrus ( Micro-climat, Passerelle, Sirrus) à été réalisée en 2001 chez Auscultare reserach/ground Fault recordings, label dirigée par Randy H.Y.Yau – aux USA et augmentée d’un texte original d’Olivier Capparos
« Je me demande si ma fascination pour les nuages (sans en faire une fixation cependant) ne naît pas à la fin des années 80, à l’époque de la composition de Micro-climat, lorsque je pérégrinais régulièrement entre le massif du Vercors et les hauts plateaux des Monts du Forez et que je découvrais, de mes yeux, avec mon corps, ma respiration, l’observation active et la marche, que les formes naturelles lorsqu’elles sont sans cesse changeante et pourtant gonflées d’une unité de matière – ici : l’eau – ouvrent à un souffle profond, fondamental, déploient un champ libre pour l’esprit.
Car il existe une densité pleine, plus que vivace, sans cesse grandissante, œuvrant en nous comme une passation de force à observer les grands mouvements de l’atmosphère qui, si l’on s’y accorde, semblent nous dire : Tu es cela.
Complexité ouvragée et béante de l’atmosphère — tout un programme de noms : Cumulus ; Altostratus ; Sirrus ; Nuages lenticulaires ; Cumulo-nimbus… pour, en réponse, une composition ramifiée œuvrant à de telles correspondances.
Un filet de vitesses croisées, de températures et d’altitudes.
Une beauté des formes à couper le souffle, jouant depuis toujours de la lumière solaire avec en germe, continûment, la fougue primordiale et dangereuse de l’éclair.
Le ciel et ses forces : notre allié.
Plus que cela : un modèle pour une musique naturelle qui, bien qu’elle soit fixée dans le cas de la musique concrète (voici une des lois du genre) et ce, sur la pellicule enregistreuse, restera chargée d’une telle poétique qui elle – n’est-ce pas là son rôle ou plutôt sa réalité ? – assurera une relance perpétuelle pour nos sens, afin d’approcher une autre idée du monde, plus ouverte et plus riche encore que ce que nous aurions osé imaginer. »

Lionel Marchetti is a French composer of concrete music
an improviser (electronics, various analogic systems with modified speakers, REVOX reel-to-reel recorder…)
as well as a visual-sound artist, a writer and a poet
Whether his music is composed or improvised
the body has an important role (Lionel Marchetti danced with the university company Relyanse between 1986 and 1991)
To define his music, one can borrow Kenneth White’s saying :
